Since joining Civic Engineers, an SME engineering consultancy, Luke has developed their Inclusion network through utilising his previous experience of chairing Balfour Beatty’s LGBT+ Network. Luke’s actions serve to create positive and inclusive workplaces, through creating positive, open discussions and encouraging engagement in developing, delivering and monitoring diversity and inclusion. Luke is Chair of Building Equality in Greater Manchester, an alliance construction organisation working together to drive LGBT+ inclusion in the industry, and a member of the Executive Committee. His work for Building Equality in Greater Manchester has seen the network grow to encompass 27 organisations since 2017. He also attends the Construction Industry Council’s NW committee for diversity. Through this, Luke has led on collaborative initiatives to drive LGBT+ inclusion including assisting in the creation of Building Equality Leeds, Bristol and Glasgow’s LGBT+ networks, leading construction Pride organisation for Manchester pride, Sparkle Weekend and Salford Pride. Luke organises and hosts external LGBT+ events, ensuring cross-industry collaboration and charity engagement to raise awareness of key LGBT+ topics. Luke is also an active public speaker and has featured, authored and contributed to articles for Construction News, MEN and The Business Desk. Additionally, Luke is driving the conversation on sexuality and gender while empowering allies to take a stand, through developing the Building Equality LGBT+ Inclusion Toolbox Talk, an interactive presentation aimed at promoting and educating on key LGBT+ issues. Luke has spearheaded the Building Equality Poster Campaign, aimed at challenging misconceptions and inappropriate language and behaviour in the workplace.
